I-55 rest stop death under investigation

Livingston County authorities are investigating the death of a 61-year-old man at an Interstate 55 rest stop just south of Pontiac.


Coroner Mike Burke reports no foul play is suspected. The death of the man, whose identity was not released, is being treated as an isolated incident.


The man arrived at the northbound Limestone Rest Area about 2:40 p.m., the incident occurred about 3:15 p.m., and the man was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m. at the scene, Burke said.


Illinois State Police troopers, Duffy Ambulance and the Pontiac Fire Department were called to the scene, but the man was found with no signs of life, Burke said.


An autopsy has been ordered.


Identification is waiting until the notification of next of kin.
