A Fort Wayne, IN truck driver escaped injury when her parked-semi trailer was hit by a freight train in Loda. Nedra Holder parked her rig for the evening (Wednesday), having backed into a private lot near Washington and Oak Street in Loda. Unaware that her trailer had crossed onto the railroad track, a southbound Canadian National freight train was unable to stop on time to avoid a collision - after the engineer noticed Holder's trailer on the track.
Iroquois County Sheriff's Police report Holder was inside the passenger cabin of the semi when the collision happened, but no injury was reported to either Holden or the train crew. Police cited Holder for illegal parking on railroad property.
Brook, IN man injured in Newton County crash ---
Sheriff's Police in Newton County report a 21-year-old Brook (IN) man was injured when he rolled his vehicle Thursday morning near Morocco. Police said the driver was southbound on CR 300W when he veered to the west near a field entrance about 1:17 am. The driver lost control and rolled the unit several times. Morocco Fire extricated the victim with transport to an area hospital. Injury status was unknown. Fire psersonnel were assisted by Newton County EMS and County 9-1-1 Communications.
