One man is dead following a house fire in Kankakee early this (Tuesday) morning.  The victim was the lone person in the 2 1/2 story house at 622 S. Greenwood Avenue. Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche reported the un-identified man was transported to a hospital in critical condition where he died.  The fire's cause is under investigation.

Firemen answered the call at 1 am after a neighbor reported the blaze. Firefighters found the fire had climbed to the second floor and attic area.  The victim was found on the second floor.  

Kankakee Fire received mutual aid from area departments. The fire was under control in about 45 minutes.
