It's a pending project officials at Kankakee Community College are moving forward on. The college library is beiung upgraded.  Work is set to go in January. KCC Marketing Director Kari Nugent says it's a long-time coming.  The libray needs change, she said. It hasn't gotten atention since the start in 1972.

The college closed the Harold and Jean Miner Memorial Library early this month to proceed with the upgrade. Heritage Development & Construction Co., of Kankakee, is set to begin work earl;y in the new year. A temporary library for the spring semester is in Room D212.

The project was given the go-aheade by the KCC Board of Trustees,  It's being funded by the KCC Foundation, reserve funds and bonds, Nugent said. The library has largely been unchanged since it opened in 1972. The Chicago-based firm of Demonica Kemper Architects designed the new space. The firm has extensive experience with schools and designed Moraine Valley Community College’s Student Success Center.

The Student Success Center, KCC President Michael Boyd said, will be much more than just a library. In fact, he said, the library will be located within the Student Success Center.
