Dense Fog Plays Role in Fatal Indiana Crash

A Monticello, IN resident was killed in a fog-related crash in Jasper County Monday night.

Indiana State Police investigated the crash between an SUV and Semi-tractor on I-65. The SUV was struck from behind by the Semi-tractor while traveling southbound approaching the exit for US Highway 24.  69-year-old Verlon Curran of Monticello was attempting to exit atRt. 24 the vehicle struck from behind by a Volvo Semi-tractor being driven by 27-year-old Dimitri Cojocar of Federal Way, Washington. Police reported heavy fog when it happened just past 9:30 pm. 

The Curran vehicle, according to the investigation, was traveling at a reduced speed as the driver attempted to locate the exit for the interstate. Both occupants of the SUV were taken to Franciscan Health of Rensselaer where the driver, Verlon Curran, was pronounced dead.
