A St. Anne man died Wednesday after falling into a grain bin at the Whitaker Grain Elevator, near Manteno. 58-year-old Chester Cleveland was trapped after falling 70-feet while trying to clean the bin. He was pronounced dead at 1 pm by Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner.

An autopsy was scheduled for today (Thursday). Cleveland was a 40-yerar employee with the grain company.

Emergency responders said another man had jumped in trying to save Cleveland. That man was rescued about an hour afterwards. Cleveland’s body was pulled from the silo hours later. Manteno Fire Chief Scott O'Brien said Whitaker Grain is located at 7690 E and 9000 N, about 3 miles west of Grant Park.
