Congressman Adam Kinzinger released a statement after the Conference Report to accompany H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 passed the House with strong bipartisan support today (Wednesday:

“Our agriculture community is hard-working, innovative, and feeds millions across this country and around the world. Today, I voted in favor of a bill that provides our farmers, ranchers, and rural America the security and certainty they need. Thank you to Chairman Conaway and others across the aisle, and across the Chambers, for their efforts to work together on this conference report and get it across the finish line here today.

“This legislation reauthorizes agriculture and nutrition programs through 2023, and includes priorities I have pushed on behalf of my constituents such as the preservation and protection of crop insurance, and providing new incentives for veterans to enter the farming profession. Additionally, this legislation provides rural American with funding to combat the opioid crisis through telehealth opportunities, for rural small businesses to install and use renewable energy, and for rural broadband.

“While some of our hard-fought reforms were ultimately removed during the Conference negotiations, this legislation is a big win for the 16th District of Illinois and marks the first time since 2002 that a new Farm Bill will be enacted in the same year that the old one expired. I stand with our farming community, and the passage of this bill today is further proof that Congress can reach across the aisle, work together, and compromise on major pieces of legislation for the good of the American people and the country.”
