Police pushing safe Thanksgiving travel campaign

Law enforcement agencies are joining a nationwide effort to keep motorists safe as they hit the road for the Thanksgiving Holiday period. Historically, Thanksgiving is the busiest time of the year, and with more people on the road it increases the chances of accidents.

Illinois State Police ask motorists to avoid the Fatal Four moving violations – DUI, speeding, non seat belt use, distracted driving. Police say avoiding the Fatal Four can help reduce your chances of being involved in a serious traffic crash.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved the lives of more than 12,500 passenger vehicle occupants age 5 and older nationwide in 2013.
