The 2016 election process got started Monday, the first day for filing petitions for the March Primary. County Clerks' offices and the State Board of Elections were busy places Monday morning. Those candidates seeking election or retaining seats in the Illinois General Assembly, Congress and local county offices turned in paper work showing their intent.

Area State Representatives seeking re-election include: Tom Bennett in the 106th District, Dan Brady in the 105th and Chad hays in the 104th. All are Republicans now serving in the Illinois House.

For State Senate in the 52nd District – incumbent Scott Bennett, Democrat of Champaign.

Congressional candidates filing included Adam Kinzinger in the 16th District, John Shimkus in the 15th District, and Rodney Davis in the 13th.
Elected offices in Iroquois County --- States's Attorney Jim Devine, Circuit Clerk Lisa Hines and Coroner Bill Cheatum have filed for re-election.
Contested races for County Board are surfacing. Districts 1, 2 and 3 show races for available seats.

In Kankakee County --- After Monday's filing, Emile Anthony Capriotti is the lone candidate to have filed for State's Attorney. Ed Glazar and larry Beaumont are likely to join Capriotti on the Republican ticket.

Jim Rowe is expected to seek the office again on the Democratic ticket.

Current State's Attorney Jamie Boyd is not seeking re-election. He plans to seek a judgeship to fill a vacancy on the bench.

County Board and Precinct Committeemen seats are also up for election in 2016.

The filing period continues until next Monday, November 30th.
