Hogs killed in Vermilion County crash

An Oklahoma truck driver suffered an undisclosed medical problem early Wednesday, driving his semitrailer into a ditch on Interstate 74 in Vermilion County. Reports listed 53 hogs died in the accident. The driver of the truck was treated & released at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Illinois State Police reported the accident happened at the entrance ramp on the western edge of Vermilion County.

53-year-old Larry Hardwick of Warr Acres, Okla., was westbound about 2:45 am when he said he suffered a medical problem. His tractor truck, which was pulling a semitrailer loaded with about 99 hogs, rolled in a ditch.
About a third of the hogs died in the crash.

Hardwick was issued tickets for improper lane usage and driving a commercial motor vehicle while impaired by illness.
