A 9-0 run to start the final and deciding set propelled Cissna Park High School to a berth in the IHSA Class 1A state volleyball finals Friday morning. Saturday's championship will find the Timberwolves matching up against Lanark-Eastland.
Outside hitter Gabby Wessels delivered the serves to open the third set Friday morning at Redbird Arena in Normal. The 9-0 start disrupted Clay City so much, the offense never got going. And Cissna Park cruised to a 25-8 decision and game-win for a berth in the Championship.
Four of Wessels serves were aces. And with dominating play from Karli Boyle and Samantha Hasselbring, each with seven kills, Cissna Park took the match 25-10, 23-25, 25-8.
The quick 9-0 start gave Cissna Park all the momentum after a sluggish second set and into the 10:30 am Saturday state championship match against Lanark-Eastland.
Lanark-Eastland was a winner over Kewanee-Weathersfield.
Anna Kaeb had 30 assists for the Timberwolves from her setter position.
Addison Stoller lead the way for Cissna Park with nine kills. Wessels added eight with Karli Boyle and Samantha Hasselbring each contributing seven.
