That volleyball star continues to shine over Iroquois County. Cissna Park and Watseka high schools are advancing to Super-Sectional play this weekend. The two powerhouse volleyball programs won their respective Sectional titles Thursday evening.
Cissna Park won the Decatur Lutheran Class 1A crown with a 2-set win over Blue Ridge. Watseka earned the Class 2A Bishop McNamara championship with a three-set win over Wilmington.
The Timberwolves (31-5-1), one of eight surviving teams in Class 1A, will face Mount Pulaski at 1 pm Saturday in the Effingham St. Anthony Super-Sectional.
Watseka 2, Wilmington 1. The Warriors (25-11) dropped their first set in the postseason match at McNamara, but they reenergized to win two in a row against Wilmington and secure an Elite Eight berth for the fourth time in the past five years.
Watseka's Class 2A Kankakee Bishop McNamara Sectional title-match win was 22-25, 25-20, 25-18. The team advances to Saturday's 1 pm Beecher Super-Sectional against Elmhurst Timothy Christian.
