Route 1 bridge work in Watseka, closures this week

Illinois Route 1 bridge work continues in Watseka.  And this week, short term closures will cause delays that motorists should be aware of, both north and southbound.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the short term closures are scheduled Wednesday thru Friday (October 28 - October 30th).

The closures will be intermittent throughout the day and last 10-20 minutes each.  The closures will allow for concreate beams to be set for the new bridge.  The scheduled work depends on weather conditions and should begin by 8 am each day.  Lengthy delays are expected at times.  Motorists are urged to seek an alternate route. No detour will be posted.

The bridge work is in conjunction with a $4,786, 120 contract awarded to Iroquois Paving Corporation of Watseka.  The project is for construction of a new bridge and corresponding road work carrying Route 1 over the Iroquois River.  The expected completion date of the prject is in 2016.

Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution when traveling thru the work zone and be alert for changing traffic patterns, flagmen and all other workers.

Traffic lights are in place for northbound and southbound traffic during the one-way route across the bridge.  Southbound motorists should also be alert, and when stopped for a red light --- Do Not block the turn lane on to Township Road 1950E (Radio Station Road).
