It's an annual program. And the Cissna Park American Legion is actively involved. The Wreaths Across America program will honor military veterans.

There's more than 1200 locations across the country where the Wreaths Across America observance will be held on Saturday, December 15.  Wreaths will be placed on the graves of military veterans. Volunteers are invited to join organizations that promote the event.  The mission is to remember, honor and teach - ensuring that the memory of those who served our country endures.

The Danville National Cemetery also joins the many other locations in the observance. Tammy Williams, the local coordinator, said over 4,000 wreaths will be placed on graves at the Danville National Cemetery.  It follows a ceremony at 11 am, east of the V A Illiana Health Care Medical Center.

At Cissna Park --  the American Legion Post 527 conducts its 11 am program on the east side of the park near the memorial cross.

Post Commander Brian Moser will ask visitors for a moment of silence to respect past and present military personnel and for those still missing in action or unaccounted for. Cissna Park FFA students will carry American flags, the American Legion Color Guard will present the colors, and Veterans of the military will carry service flags assisted by The Sons of the American Legion carrying the memorial wreaths.

Participants will then lay the wreaths, visiting any of eight cemeteries the Cissna Park Legion honors --- Amity, Apostolic, Ash Grove, Cissna Park, Pitch In, Schwer, St. Paul's Woodworth or Trinity.

A total of 405 veterans are at rest at these eight cemeteries. Forty addtional wreaths will be layed at the Rankin Cemetery.

American Legion Post 527 welcomes all in honoring those who have served our country.
