Update: Hoopeston man died in crash near Bismarck

The Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has identified the victim killed in Friday’s crash near Bismarck. 47-year-old James D. Callahan of Hoopeston died in the head-on crash on Illinois Route 1.

The crash happened south of County Road 2820 N., about a mile north of Bismarck.

State police reported Callahan was driving south when his car veered into the northbound lane and smashed into a second car head-on. His car reportedly flipped over and became engulfed in flames while the second car came to a stop on the highway.

A 29-year-old woman was also injured in the crash.

The Illinois State Police and the Vermilion County Coroner's office are investigating the incident.
