Ford County voters say ‘No’ to advisory question on sales-tax increase

Ford County voters (Tuesday) turned away thoughts of a quarter-cent sales tax increase to support public safety. The advisory question was rejected by 1,000 votes.

The unofficial vote totals showed the margin of defeat was 2,967 to 1,961.

The Ford County Board had placed the question on the ballot “to get a feel for what the public was thinking,” according to board member Chase McCall.

The sales tax was projected to raise about $220,000 to help fund the sheriff’s department and other public safety matters.
