Arson charges from Sheldon house fire

Two people, including the homeowner, are facing arson charges for the Wednesday morning fire in Sheldon. 

44-year-old Melissa Emery and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested by Iroquois County Sheriff's Police for the fire at 440 E. Center Street in Sheldon.  Both suspects are charged with a Class 1 felony, residential arson.  Sheldon Police and the Illinois State Fire Marshall were involved in the investigation and arrests. 

Emery was jailed in Watseka.  The 17-year-old was taken to a juvenile detention center in McLean County.The investigation continues.  State's Attorney Jim Devine said the suspects are not related.

Sheldon fire answered the call about 2:15 Wednesday morning.  Fire departments from four neighboring communities provided mutual aid.
