MILFORD – It’s been a process, quite a process over the last several months and years. Now, Milford is ready to occupy its new school building.
While most area students and staff have been in class the last week or two, the Milford (MAPS #124) Area Public School District welcomes a new school year next week, after Labor Day. And for the MAPS #124 District, a new era begins after the community approved a $17.5 million building program – building a new high school and remodel of the Milford Grade School gym and cafeteria into eight new classrooms.
It all started in 2007, two community school boards sitting down to agree the need for a new building. Then, the district recognizes the need for to a be a Unit District. The advantages educationally and financially for a Unit District and a vote in 2014 passes to establish MAPS District #124.
Several meetings and discussion lead to a referendum, which the community supported with 61% in favor.
