9-1-1 Service continues, Rep. Hays bill seeks Governor’s signature

House Bill 1811 co-sponsored by State Representative Chad Hays to make sure funding continues for 9-1-1 centers is on its way to the governor.

Hays is hopeful the votes will be there as he explained what the bill is all about.....

Hays addressed lawmakers on the floor saying the funding source for 9-1-1 services has fallen due to the number of landline telephones dropping.

Hays said communities have stepped up to help themselves. This measure would help 9-1-1 systems from struggling even more and in some cases, closing.

The bill co-sponsored by Representative Hays is essentially identical to Senate Bill 1839 which amends the Emergency Telephone Act and extends the expiration date until the end of 2020.
