A Chebanse teen charged with leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident will serve probation until he’s 21. The now 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty in Kankakee Court for the May 2016 incident which left 36-year-old Aaron Sorensen dead.
The now 17-year-old boy, who is not being named because he is being charged as a juvenile, pleaded guilty. He is on probation until he is 21, had his license revoked, must do community service and pay court costs.
Sorensen, who was from Kankakee, was riding a skateboard in the 1600 block of South Schuyler Avenue when he was hit. Sorensen was coming from his home on South Fourth Avenue at 10:15 pm.
An anonymous tip led investigators to the juvenile’s parents' home in Chebanse. The youth was arrested three days later.
State's Attorney Jim Rowe said his office asked the judge to sentence the boy to state juvenile detention until he was 21. Rowe said “this was the judge’s ruling; we did not agree to a plea bargain.”
