Cissna Park’s 130th Old Settlers Reunion is one of the area’s weekend events. It begins today (Thursday) with activities in the village park. The event, one of the state of Illinois’ longest running observances, runs through Saturday. It’s sponsored by the Cissna Park American Legion Post #527.
The community bandstand features entertainment all three nights – Jani & Craig Massey at 8 pm today, Modern Cowboyz Friday and the Dixie Crush at 8 pm Saturday.
The Old Settlers Parade is at Noon Saturday.
Sheldon Parade -- 2pm Sunday >
The Grand Parade steps off at 2 pm for Sheldon Fun Days. The three-day event runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Slow Boys Tractor Club Ride, the Little Mister & Miss Fun Days Pageant are featured Friday. The Ram Run 5K and Kids Fun Run gets Saturday activites started followed by the Antique Tractor & Engine Show. There’s a Petting Zoo and Sheldon Alumni Social and a Free Teen Dance.
The Community Worship Service Sunday is at 10:30. And the parade at 2 pm
The 141st annual Fairbury Fair began Wednesday.....
There was an opportunity to donate blood at the Red Cross Bloodmobile, a rooster crowing contest, a DJ under the beer tent and carnival rides.
Thursday is Day Care Day with a free gate until 3 p.m. with ticket deals for rides, a meat goat show and a DJ in the beer tent.
Friday includes a euchre tournament, carnival rides, demolition derby and Jury’s Out performs under the beer tent in the evening.
Saturday’s 5K run or two mile walk starts off the day bright and early, followed by a kids Baggo tournament, carnival rides and racing at the speedway with more music at the beer tent.
Sunday ends the fair with a community worship service at the grandstands, antique farm equipment displays, a chili cook-off.
