Food and music --- brings people together. It’s a common bond. And -- this weekend’s Merchant Street Music Fest in Kankakee takes another step at building a positive image.
The annual music gathering in Kankakee’s ‘Harold & Jean Miner Festival Square’ is Friday and Saturday, featuring music for all generations. It’s just a $5-dollar admission.

Allison Beasley and a host of volunteers have assembled a musical groups entertaining from three stages.

Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong is excited in her new role to help bring the community together.

And the musical line-up includes local-talent like Watseka-native Nick Lynch, Lupe Carroll, and Leigh Evin & the Low Down.

The Claudettes, Ebony Stone, Anthony Orio, Tony Holiday & the Velvetones, and Color Me Badd are in the line-up to share the three stages.

There’s also plenty of vendors, There’s Arts & Crafts. Security and emergency medical responders will be on the grounds, courtesy of the Kankakee Police and Fire Departments.
