Former Gilman City Clerk facing embezzlement charges

The City of Gilman’s former clerk, Michelle “Shelly” Fancher is free on bond having posted the required bail for felony charges of Theft and Official Misconduct.

Fancher turned herself in (Thursday) at the Iroquois County Jail. A warrant had been issued for her arrest. Iroquois County Sheriff’s Police conducted an investigation into the misappropriation of city funds.

The City of Gilman initiated the investigation, alleging Fancher embezzled more than $10,000 over a seven-year period from 2011 to 2017. Fancher resigned from her elected post several months ago.
