The bitter cold temps will continue another day, but relief is likely by Wednesday. The National Weather Service expects Wednesday through Friday high temperatures to climb into the mid-30s.

Monday’s bitter temperatures will continue.

A mix of snow, rain and sleet over the weekend caused traffic problems across the country. East-central Illinois had to deal with several traffic accidents.

Slide-offs were reported in several counties. And several events, including church services and sporting events were cancelled or postponed.

Monday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny, but temperatures are only going to reach to around 15. And wind-chill readings are going to dip to 5 to 15 below zero. (The wind-chill is how cold it feels on exposed skin).
Monday night finds a clearing sky with near steady temperatures around 9 degrees. Wind chills will reach 6 below to 4 above at times.

Tuesday, although the temperature is expected to climb to 30....gusty southwest winds of up to 25 miles per hour will again offer wind-chill readings at around 5 below.
