25-year-old Tyree Johnston was booked in at the Newton County Jail in Kentland after leading police on a 4-county pursuit that ended in Hammond, IN (Wednesday). The pursuit ended after 90 minutes. Johnston was clocked at speeds over 106 mph.
Newton County law enforcement reports it was Kentland Police which initiated the traffic stop on U.S. 41. The chase ran thru the four counties when the driver refused to stop. After the crash in Hammond, two subjects fled on foot. A police canine chased Johnston down. The passenger was released with no charges against him.
Police from Newton, Benton, Warren, Fountain and Lake County Sheriff Departments were involved along with Goodland, Highland, Hammond, Cedar Lake, Schereville Police Departments and Indiana State Police.
