A head-on collision (Thursday afternoon) on Danville’s Memorial Bridge killed one person and left two other people hurt. Danville Police report the crash occurred in the middle of the bridge on South Gilbert Street. It happened at 1:15 pm.

One person died after the crash at an Urbana hospital. Michael Shanks has been identified as the victim. He was one of the drivers. The 52-year-old from Kokomo, Indiana also had a passenger. That passenger was also treated at a Champaign hospital.

Police said a vehicle operated by a 19-year-old from Danville was southbound and veered into the northbound lanes where the collision occurred.
