(Cambridge, IL) -- Township leaders in Henry County are fighting to keep their jobs. County leaders last night backed away from a plan to ask voters if they'd like to consolidate some townships to save money or make government more efficient. Some current and former township leaders told the county that they're necessary parts of local government, and that consolidating townships will take away a local voice.

Supporters of consolidation argue township, and other forms of local government, are just another paycheck for taxpayers to support and that there's too much duplication of services.
