Dwight man killed in garage fire

The State Fire Marshall is investigating a garage fire in Dwight that killed a 53-year-old man over the weekend. Donald Heinrich, who was confined to a wheelchair, died Saturday night about an hour after a fire at this home. The Dwight Fire Department and Grundy County Coroner’s Office are also involved in the investigation.

The Dwight Fire Department said upon arrival they found the handicap-individual on the floor. It was reported there may have been an explosion. Officials said the victim had been working in the garage.

EMT’S and firefighters were able to free the man from the structure. CPR was performed to revive Heinrich. He later died at Morris Community Hospital.

The Coroner’s Office reported Heinrich sufferred burns on his body, but the cause of death was from a cardiac event that could have been brought on by the traumatic event of the fire.
