The American Red Cross says blood donations dropped significantly in recent weeks, leading to a severe shortage.
The organization is issuing an emergency call for people to donate blood and platelets. Blood drives are scheduled across northern Illinois. Check the Red Cross website www.redcrossblood.org.

A local opportunity to donate is Thursday, January 12th at the Danforth Community Center. The hours are 12 Noon to 6 pm.
