Firefighters from four departments battled 30 mph winds in Rantoul Sunday.  A house fire west of the city destroyed the home and killed the family dog.

Rantoul Fire answered the call just before 3 pm.  Fire Chief Ken Waters said the 20-30 mph winds didn't help as flames spread throughout the house and garage.  Damage estimates were over $200,000 which included the hosue and two vehicles.  A nearby shed was also damaged.

No people were injured, but the family dog was found dead under a bed.

Rantrol firemen received mutual aid from Gifford, Ludlow and Thomasboro fire departments.
