The Kankakee City Council received an updated report on the $30-million Riverfront Development Plan. It’s a 10-year plan that hopefully, will create an attraction the city can build on for the future.

Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong referred to the Hitchcock plan at her State-of-the-City address last week, calling the plan long over do.

The Hitchcock Design Group explains it’s a plan that’s driven by available dollars. Property and sales taxes would cover an estimated $18-million of the plan. The hope is about $12-million would be created by private donations and state and federal grants.

The mayor says everyday city expenses will not be hurt by this plan. The essential needs of the community will be met.
TIF funding is expected to help drive the River Plan.
