Members of the Cissna Park FFA chapter attended the 90th annual Illinois State FFA Convention June 12-14. They were among more than 5,000 other members, advisors and guests who took part.
The CP FFA members attended with their chapter advisor, Jeffrey Clifton.
Theme for the three-day event was “Be Bold.” The convention recognizes achievements of Illinois FFA members, elects the major state officer team, and celebrates agriculture. The convention program featured addresses by National FFA Southern Region vice president Ian Bennett of Georgia and from each of the retiring major state officers.
Awards presented to the Cissna Park FFA chapter included:
“Outstanding Chapter President Award” -- This was presented to Madelyn Bauer as she was recognized as one of 10 outstanding chapter presidents in the state for exceptional leadership and service. The award is sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau.
“Heritage Award Section Winner” and “Third Place in State:” This program encourages FFA chapters to inform people on their heritage and rights and responsibilities as citizens.
“Cooperative Activities Section” winner – Through this program, FFA members and advisors learn the values and principles of cooperative businesses in the American free enterprise system and develop an understanding of the cooperative way of doing business.
“Strengthening Agriculture National Chapter Award” – Section Winner: As part of the National Chapter Award program and the chapter’s program of activities, Strengthening Agriculture is designed to encourage opportunities and service for members.
“Foundation $3,000 Club Award” recipient – The CP FFA chapter was recognized for coordinating a local campaign for the Illinois Foundation FFA which raised at least $3,000.
“Landscape Management State Proficiency” winner was Trevor Kaeb, son of Todd and Val Kaeb of Cissna Park, who manages the grounds at Creekside Prairie.
“Specialty Crop Production Proficiency” winner and “State Star in Agribusiness” finalist – District 2: This award went to Travis Kaeb, son of Warren and Jill Kaeb of Buckley.
