Governmental leaders and school officials met at Kankakee Community College (Thursday) to talk about the stop-gap spending proposal being pushed by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner.

State Representative Kate Cloonen and school administrators are taking issue with the Governor's plan for a stop-gap approach rather than a budget for the new Fiscal Year July 1st.

KCC President John Avendano expressed his leery attitude about a partial funding plan. He said lay-offs were made, programs were closed, and faculty vacancies have not been filled. Avendano said downsizing has hurt, including closing the Child Care Center.

The current stop-gap plan has resulted in KCC only receiving 13 percent of its usual funding.
