The USDA says that programs like federally subsidized crop insurance and federal food assistance will continue even though lawmakers failed to pass a new Farm Bill by the deadline of this weekend. Sec. Sonny Perdue said Friday that they'll work to ensure that they'll have funding to operate while the House and Senate hash out the differences of their competing versions.

WIC gets a boost ...

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service announced a $2-million agreement with the Johns Hopkins University to study ways to improve the USDA’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, or WIC. The agency said they're looking to improve retention of eligible kids. The school will select a number of local agencies to work with through a national competition.
