Recent rain kept area farmers on the sideline for the last few days. Now, many farmers are anxious to wrap up the fall harvest.
The USDA reports more than half the corn and soybeans have been brought in --- before the rain arrived.
About 63 percent of the corn had been harvested, which is well ahead of last year, when only 36 percent of the corn had been harvested as of October 7. The five-year average is about 41 percent.
The USDA also reported about 51 percent of the soybeans in Illinois had been harvested at the start of the week. That compared to 49 percent a year ago and 39 percent over the previous five years.
Observers don’t think there are going to be too many records set for corn, but there might be for beans.
