New report shows jobless rates down

New unemployment figures show Kankakee and Vermilion County are experiencing some very low jobless rates.

Kankakee County is among most-improved, showing significant job gains too.

The September unemployment rate in Kankakee County is at 4.2% -- down from 4.5% in September of 2017. In the last year, officials report a gain of 2900 jobs.

‘’The unemployment rate continues to decline in most metros,’’ says Illinois Department of Employment Security Director Jeff Mays. He says Illinois saw its lowest number of unemployment claims filed in the month of September in 45 years.

Vermilion County’s unemployment rate for September was 5.1 percent, down from 5.9 percent in August. The city of Danville’s jobless rate for September stood at 5.6 percent...down from 6.9 in August.

Iroquois County’s unemployment rate fell from 3.9 to 3.7 percent. And in Champaign County, the September unemployment rate of 3.8 percent was down from 4.5 in August.
