Illinois schools are getting money for repairs. The Illinois State Board of Education is giving the go-ahead to 29 school districts across the state to borrow money at no-interest for construction projects.
Kankakee School District #111 is in line for $30-million.
Districts including Danville, Rantoul, Champaign and Urbana will be allowed to use the federal bonding authority to borrow a total of four-hundred-95-million-dollars at little or no-interest. The bonding authority comes from a federal program under the Recovery Act that's designed to allow schools to make needed repairs without taking money from their classrooms.
