Dr. King’s message rekindled in Kankakee, Danville Monday during MLK events

The pursuit of Dr. Martin Luther King's dream was re-emphasized today (Monday) by the Rev. Ricky Dixon at Kankakee County's annual Celebration Service at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church...

"it's 53 years later and the dream of Dr. King continues," said the Rev. Dixon.

The Rev Dixon, of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Sun River Terrace, was asked if we're any closer to Dr. King's dream ? ...

"We are closer but we're not where we need to be, so there's some heightened tension we need to improve on; we are progressing which is a great thing."

The 2016 Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. -- 50 Years Later – finds the journey continuing.

The Celebration in Kankakee followed the annual Inter-faith Prayer Breakfast at the Quality Inn in Bradley. Some 150 people attended there. And today's events wrapped a weekend of events sponsored by the Dr. King Memorial Foundation of Kankakee County.

In Danville -- a motorcade-parade honoring Dr. King saw several people brave the cold temperatures and bitter wind. The bus allowed marchers to hop on to get out of the cold.

Danville's Human Relations Administrator, Sandra Finch, said it's important to remember the dream. She said race relations in Danville have improved. She said "we have work to do, but it's pretty good."
