The Newton County Sheriff’s Department responded a fatal crash Sunday in Lake Village. The report indicated a vehicle struck a utility pole on State Road 10 east of US 41.

33-year-old Robert Tyson of Lake Station, Indiana was eastbound on State Road 10 when the vehicle ran a stop light at the intersection of State Road 10 and US 41. The vehicle then lost control and went off the road, causing the vehicle to strike a utility pole.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation.

Herscher man seriously injured in pick-up vs Semi collision--

85-year-old Laverne Schultz was air-lifted to Loyola Medical Center after his pickup hit the side of the semi tractor-trailer on Illinois Route 115 at Lehigh Road.

State Police reported the semi driver, from Iowa, failed to yield at the stop intersection. The semi driver was ticketed for failure to yield.

The accident happened at 10 am Sunday in Kankakee County.
