Indiana Update: Driver who fled from police identified

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is identifying the driver of a car that crashed in the river after fleeinng from police Tuesday.  Rich Cantu is on the run.  He's wanted on a warrant out of Jasper County.  A vehicle he was driving was stopped by deputies Tuesday afternoon, but then fled leading police on aa 11-mile pursuit.  Police said the car crashed into the Iroquois River near State Line Road 700 W.  Cantu, now identified as the driver, fled the scene.  Police believe he's left the area.

A female passenger was not injured.  A search of the river determined Cantu had left.  Police say Cantu faces several charges including Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, crimincal confinement and reckless driving.  He's a 37-year-old, 5-7, 262 pounds.   Anyone with information as to Cantu’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact local law enforcement immediately.

Morocco Police and the Newton County Drug Task Force were also involved in Tuesday's pursuit.
