City of Kankakee Mayor Chris W. Curtis will host an inaugural Turkey Dinner Giveaway on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm at the parking lot in front of the municipal building 304 S. Indiana Ave, Kankakee IL. This event, sponsored by local supermarkets and the Mayor, will provide free turkeys and sides to residents on a first registered - first served basis.
"Similar to curbside pickup, residents getting turkeys can remain in their car and we'll take the turkey and sides and put it in their vehicle. It's going to be as safe as possible and follow all the guidelines,” he said.
"Thanksgiving should be a time of family, gratitude, and a full meal," said Mayor Chris Curtis "As many in our community faces food insecurity, Thanksgiving is not only a time to be thankful for what we have, but also a time to help our fellow neighbor. It is so important to come together in a safe way and support our residents in the City of Kankakee. I have always wanted to do a turkey giveaway, and I am very appreciative of the support of local supermarkets: Jewel Osco, Berkot's Super Foods and Walmart along with David Guzman in the Mayor's office, for their contribution, generosity and commitment to the City of Kankakee and making this possible. This will be an exciting day and we expect it to grow larger each year.”
