The Red Cross is helping a family of four after a house fire in Kankakee Wednesday. The fire department answered the call during the noon hour in the 700-block of N. Dearborn Av.

No injury was reported. The house was extensively damaged.
A vacant house fire on West Avenue in Kankakee last night did about $17,000 in damage. Firemen found heavy smoke coming from the 1st floor; the house was converted in to 2 apartments. The cause is being investigated.
