As the deadline for cities in Illinois to submit their applications to the state passes, Kankakee County joins the "Amazon Headquarters" race.
Timothy Nugent with the Economic Alliance of Kankakee County says the area may not have all of what the shipping giant has asked for in their request for proposals to build a massive second headquarters, but they are offering incentives including a massive green-field site. ....
“We want them (Amazon) to know there are alternatives out there,” Nugent said. “We have a unique opportunity that they might not be offered in larger metro areas.”
State Rep. Lindsay Parkhurst says they're offering Amazon the positives of being near Chicago but without the congestion and cost. She does say, however, that the state's unfunded pension liabilities need to be addressed to truly become an attractive business destination. Kankakee County joins other areas in the applicartion process for 50,000 jobs Amazon would bring.
The details of the proposal are kept secret until they're officially submitted to Amazon.
