It was a narrow 10-9 vote by the Iroquois County Board (Tuesday)... county board meetings will still be held on 9 am on the second Tuesday of the month.
The full Board followed a recommendation of the Policy & Procedure committee to keep the meetings as they are now.
Board member Vince LaMie had pushed for evening meetings to allow more working people and opportunity to run for office and other working -citizens to attend meetings.
Board member Chad McGinnis had also suggested maybe alternating a few meeting times to allow for a few certain evening meetings.
The Policy & Procedure committee members, after discussion, decided there was no need for night meetings.
Some county office-holders said night meetings would not guarantee attendance from the public. The agenda itself is what may spark attendance for a meeting.
Board Chairman John Shure said the county board meeting room doesn’t have enough seating to accommodate the public. He also said night meetings would inconvenience county officials who work during the day.
LaMie insists, the evening meetings are about accommodating the public...
