The Newton County Sheriff’s Office reports a man was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Newton County Saturday.

Police responded to a call of a person struck by a vehicle on State Road 10 between DeMotte and Roselawn just after 10pm.

A man was found unresponsive on the side of the road. Police say a Honda SUV was traveling west on S.R. 10 when it struck the male from behind as he walked in the westbound lane.

The driver told investigators she did not see the man walking in the roadway. The Newton County Coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured and refused medical treatment.

Names are being withheld at this time and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
