An appointment to serve on the ETSB Board in Iroquois County raises a little concern and questions. The concern is really about inclusion and a little fairness. County Board Chairman John Shure appointed Charles Alt of Cissna Park to fill the unexpired term of Dan Rayman on the Emergency Telephone System Board. Rayman, who’s also the Vice-Chair of the County Board, recently resigned his seat on the ETSB. Alt was named to fill the vacancy, a move that’s the call of the Board Chairman. But a routine voice-vote of the County Board (Tuesday) to support the appointment, raised enough “nays” to call for a Roll-Call vote. Shure’s appointment was supported on a 9-7 vote. First-term board member Sherry Johnson of Watseka questioned how/why qualifications aren’t considered ? ………. "It would be nice to have the Chairman talk to us and find what the members strengths and weaknesses are, to see how we can all offer our best," Johnson stated. Johnson reminded Chairman Shure that he and Vice-Chair Rayman told her when was seated in December, they’d talk about who might be a better fit for serving committees. That, she said, hasn’t happened. Shure told Johnson he didn’t recall saying that. Johnson later told 94.1 WGFA News, she understand the appointment is the Chairman’s choice, but a little respect goes a long way too……………… "It is the Chairman's decision to appoint, but an equal playing field for everyone would be appropriate," Johnson said. Board member Donna Crow (Milford) also questioned the heavy-hand of too many county board members on the ETSB Board when people with more emergency-response qualifications may be better suited for the ETSB. 94.1 WGFA
