Chasity Wells-Armstrong is off and running as Kankakee’s new Mayor. She was sworn-in Monday night before an overflow crowd at the Kankakee City Chambers.

Mrs. Wells-Armstrong made history last month, winning election to become the city’s first-ever African-American Mayor. She told the crowd, she’s the city mayor, not an African-American Mayor or a Democrat Mayor. She insisted, “we’re all in this together, for the good of Kankakee.”
And that drew thunderous applause.

She said she has to get a budget in place. She’s reaching out to people with experience and still looking for key people for the administration.
