First female village board president in Buckley

The village of Buckley seated its first female village board president Monday. Sheree Stachura was sworn-in by Village Clerk Jim Biggs at the board’s monthly meeting Monday night.

Stachura was a winner in the April 4 election, defeating longtime Buckley resident and Ardell “Goat” Goetting to win the president’s job. The vote tally was 134 – 36.
Goetting was former mayor and trustee. Stachura had served three years as a trustree.

Local residents were on hand at village hall as Stachura was sworn-in along with Biggs.

Also taking their oath of office were: Peggy Shockley, Keith Hartke, Becky Weisenbarn and Ernie Hoopingarner as trustees. Hoopingarner is serving a 2-year term.

After being sworn-in, Stachura expressed appreciation with a “thank you” to outgoing village president Evan Scott Shockley for all he has done for the village while in office. Shockley opted not to run for re-election.

In Crescent City – Mark Rabe was sworn-in Monday as village mayor. He succeeds long-time mayor Jim Ward, who did not seek re-election.

Ward was in attendance at his 411th meeting. He served as mayor for 28 years.

Also recognized was 24-year trustee Bev Stein who retired. Trustee Steve Carley and newcomer Kim Lund were sworn-in along with village clerk Ruth Boyer.
