Paxton Mayor: “change in leadership was needed”

An interim-police chief is in place at Paxton. And a search for a permanent replacement for fired-Police Chief Bob Bane will begin. Meanwhile---little is being said about reasons for Bane’s termination.

Mayor Bill Ingold said in a prepared statement at this week’s City Council meeting, “it was clear a change in leadership was needed.”

The Ford County Record reports Ingold stated that he made the decision to fire Bane “based on both personal information and the input of others.” Ingold said “I do not intend to publicly address the reasons behind my decision, as I never discuss personnel decisions in public.” The mayor added, “it was clear a change in leadership was needed.”

Bane had been Paxton police chief since 2006.

Former police captain Coy Cornett is serving as acting chief. The council voted 8-0 Tuesday night to concur with Ingold’s appointment of Cornett to the interim position.

The City Council was also in closed session (Tuesday) to discuss ‘imminent litigation.’
