Detours planned in Newton, Iroquois County

Illiana area motorists may want to note that road work in the next week or two will forced scheduled detours.  The Illinois and Indiana Departments of Transportation announced detours for the week of September 21 and September 28.

In Newton County, Indiana --- beginning Monday 9/21, U.S. Route 24 between U.S. 41 and State Road 55 will be closed while a work crew will perform a chip seal and fog deal operation to preserve the road service.  The project will continue for a couple of days, weather permitting.  The prpoject depends on dry weather, so the work could be delayed if conditions aren't ideal.

In Iroquois County --- The Illinois Department of Transportation will close the the Route 52 - Union Pacific Railroad grade crossing just off Illinois Route 1 south of Martinton.  The closure is planned for Monday, September 28 and will last about four days.  The railroad will repair the crossing.  A detour, using Route 52 and 24, will be in effect.

Motorists are ruged to use caution along the detour route.
